Cambridge Curriculum
Cambridge is an international curriculum followed in schools and homes in more than 160 countries. Saving Grace delivers the full pathway online, from Cambridge Primary through to A Level, at your child's own pace and with the year's materials available up front.
The reason families choose it
Portability. A Cambridge qualification is understood and accepted internationally, so a family that may move — or a learner who intends to study abroad — is not tied to one country's certificate. There are two examination sessions a year, which gives more flexibility than a single annual sitting.
The honest trade-offs
Cambridge is not simply "the better one". It is a different bet.
- Cost. Cambridge examination entries are charged separately by the examination body and are materially more expensive than the South African equivalent. Budget for them from the start rather than discovering them in the exam year.
- Moving back. A child who switches from Cambridge into a mainstream South African school mid-phase will find the content sequenced differently. The further into the pathway, the more that costs.
- University in South Africa. South African universities accept Cambridge qualifications, but the admission requirements are expressed differently from the NSC. Check the specific faculty requirements early — not in the final year.
Who it suits
Families with a genuine international plan, learners aiming at universities abroad, and children who are comfortably at or above grade level and want more academic stretch. If the appeal is mostly that it "sounds more rigorous", that is usually not enough reason on its own — ask in this forum first and hear from families who made the switch both ways.
For the stage structure, subject options and fees, see the Cambridge Online Homeschool programme on the main Saving Grace site.
